Theremin track conjures a “haunted dance floor for glamour ghouls”

Academy Award-winning composer (score, Pinocchio (1940), conductor, songwriter ('When You Wish Upon a Star' Academy award, Best Song, 1940) and arranger Leigh Harine was educated at the University of Utah. Austin’s reigning scream queen tells us the track, which she made in collaboration with Louisianna’s good friend local electro craftmaster Mr.Kitty, conjures a “haunted dance floor for glamour ghouls.” Mr.Kitty created all the backing tracks while Louisianna helmed her Theremin. A top-four finalist on season 3 of the Boulet Brothers’ horror drag competition series, Dragula, and co-founder of local horror revue Die Felicia, the four-time “Best of Austin” award-winning drag performer shares she’s been playing instruments since she was a teen and that making a Theremin album “was something I’ve had in the back of mind” for awhile. Following “Whip Crack”’s debut Louisianna plans to release four more Theremin singles throughout 2021 with the end result being her EP, Rituals. “Why not create my perfect Halloween soundtrack!”

As Louisianna sees it, making original music is another form of expression that shares common threads with her drag art. “There are no rules for drag, as an art form, and since we mostly lip sync to other people’s music, it would only make sense to make our own,” she says. Fashioning a whole, brand new world for the music – videos, concept photos, and more – creates an exciting exploration, too. In the end, Louisianna’s creative projects – which includes performance videos for social media produced by local drag artist Chique Fil-Atio – all meld together to produce one frighteningly fabulous vision. “It all creates this all encompassing world I want to create around Louisianna.”
